OpenRadiation in Finland
The first Finnish science festival was organised to coincide with the European Citizen Science Association conference. OpenRadiation was there!
The European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) held its conference in the city of Oulu, Finland, during the first week of March. Over 600 participants spent a week discussing all aspects of citizen science: sustainability, data quality, the use of citizen data in scientific projects, expert assessments and decision-making, etc. This was the occasion to present OpenRadiation activities to the open science community.
During the conference, the ECSA organised Finland's first science festival, allowing project leaders to present their activities and invite participants to join various networks, generally focused on environmental issues: biodiversity, environmental protection, air quality, health, space, etc. and OpenRadiation!
Held in the entrance hall of a shopping centre, this science festival was an opportunity to meet local residents, some of whom showed great interest in radioactivity measurement. Finland has a large granite base, which produces background levels comparable to that observed in granite regions of France. New contributors in perspective?
