CLIs build resilience in France and Japan with OpenRadiation

October 13, 2024 is the 3rd edition of the “National Day of Resilience to Natural and Technological Risks” initiated by the Government, in line with the UN's “International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction”. It aims to raise awareness, inform and acculturate all citizens to the risks that surround them, in a logic of practical exercises and with the objective of contributing to the preparation of all to the good reflexes in case of disaster.

Taking advantage of the creation of this “JNR”, CLIs and citizens carry out measurements of radioactivity in the environment every October 13, on the same day at the same time throughout the country. In 2024, in partnership with the association
“Dialogue Fukushima”, measurements are taken in both France and Japan, using OpenRadiation sensors. A total of 8 CLI (“Commissions Locales d'Information” located near “Installations Nucléaires de Base”) took part in the operation in 2024. The operation will be repeated as part of the next JNR 2025, once again in collaboration with the Japanese association. It's a way of raising citizens' awareness of radioactivity in their environment, helping them to form their own opinions about radiological risk.
